On Mar. 1, Doctor Who wrapped up its twelfth season with the Doctor taken into a distant prison in space. In 2021, the Time Lord will return with a brand new set of adventures, whose premiere date is yet to be announced. While talking with EW, showrunner Chris Chibnall revealed that production on the upcoming, eight-episode season is currently on-going.
“We’re filming as we speak,” he said. “We’ve got lots of new characters, new monsters, some old ones coming back. We’re only a few weeks in. We’re obviously having to work in a very different way, under COVID protocols. So, it’s not without its challenges but every series of Doctor Who has had its challenges. At the moment, everybody’s smiling and what we’ve got so far is really thrilling.”

Chibnall then added that they already have an ‘idea’ about the specific release date. When asked for more details about it, he kept it vague.
“As soon as [we] finish it, I promise we’ll put it on telly straight away,” he concluded.
In the meantime, Doctor Who fans will see Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor return in the upcoming Holliday special, Revolution of the Daleks. It will debut on BBC America at 8 p.m. EST on New Year’s Day, and it will be the last one on the series for the characters of Graham O’Brien and Ryan Sinclair.
