The Book of Boba Fett Officially Announced as The Mandalorian Spinoff

The season finale of The Mandalorian Season 2 featured a surprise scene for the fans shortly after the credits. Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand storm into Jabba’s Palace and kill Bib Fortuna together with all his henchmen, claiming Jabba’s throne. The post-credits scene left the fans thrilled but confused at the same time as some mistakenly thought that it was part of the upcoming Season 3. A few days after the scene, The Mandalorian producer Jon Favreau cleared the air and announced The Book of Boba Fett officially as a separate show from The Mandalorian. And it seems that we will see Boba Fett’s spin-off before the third season.

“We didn’t want to spoil the surprise during the big Disney announcement of all the shows when Kathleen Kennedy was up there,” Favreau said on GMA. “They let me keep this one a secret. So this is actually separate from The Mandalorian Season 3. But what we didn’t say in that announcement is the next show coming up — what Kathy called the next chapter — is going to be The Book of Boba Fett, and then we go into production right after that on Season 3 of The Mandalorian, back with the main character that we all have known and loved.”

Following Favreau’s words, StarWars.com revealed that The Book of Boba Fett would share the same timeline with The Mandalorian. Temuera Morrison will reprise the titular bounty hunter’s role, along with Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. Robert Rodriguez will executive produce together with Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Boba Fett officially returned in the Star Wars Universe at the end of the premiere of Season 2. We saw more of him in Chapter 14 when he confronted Mando to recover his father’s armor. After clearing the air, the two bounty hunters hunted Moff Gideon down to save Baby Yoda/Grogu. Even though Fett and Din Djarin get along, the rest of the Mandalorians on the show don’t like Boba Fett. They haven’t forgotten that he is just the unaltered clone of Jango Fett.

The Book of Boba Fett will debut somewhere in December 2021. In the meantime, you can check the freshly-released logo for the series below.
