Mondo Brings Daft Punk’s Tron: Legacy Soundtrack To Vinyl

Given their robot personas, it was only a matter of time before somebody asked Daft Punk to score a sci-fi movie. Regardless, they couldn’t have chosen a better project than Tron: Legacy. The duo’s signature brand of electronic music felt perfectly suited to the Grid’s virtual dystopia. And with the film’s 10th anniversary coming up, Mondo is giving their soundtrack a new vinyl pressing.

Technically, the score has been available to own on vinyl for years. But as with all Mondo releases, this one is special. It features an exclusive cover designed by Matt Taylor. Previously, Taylor has worked with Mondo on posters and soundtracks for a variety of Marvel Studios films. The music itself was remastered by James Plotkin and pressed on two 180-gram colored LPs  It also comes housed in a a spot-varnished die-cut O-Card.

Daft Punk succeeded Wendy Carlos, who provided the score for the first Tron way back in 1982. According to the sequel’s director, Joseph Konsinski, the members were big fans of the original film as well. Their score was arranged and orchestrated by Joseph Trapanese and was recorded over more than two years in a “purpose-built” studio that Disney created specifically for the band. The soundtrack was praised by critics and fans for combining Daft Punk’s typical synth-driven flair with an 85-piece orchestra.

Mondo’s pressing of Daft Punk’s Tron: Legacy soundtrack goes on sale for $35 this Wednesday at noon CT. Pre-orders will ship in November.
