Black Widow Big Game Spot Emphasizes Family

Marvel wouldn’t leave you hanging during the biggest TV commercial day of the year. And while their new Black Widow spot was short and to the point, we did catch a glimpse of new footage. But perhaps in the spirit of Fast and Furious, this trailer emphasizes family. The de facto family of superheroes that Black Widow was in before the Avengers, apparently.

There’s a little more of Taskmaster, some Black Widow training, Yelena in the black costume, and a bunch of action beats. A lot is packed into about half a minute. And an emphasis that we do not know everything about Natasha Romanoff.

Set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Black Widow officially kicks of Marvel’s Phase Four. Also including Disney+ TV shows like Loki and WandaVision, this phase will include several characters currently dead in the main timeline, via multiverse and flashback. This look into Black Widow’s past will presumably reveal some of the “red in her ledger.” As well as the oft-mentioned references to Budapest. Scarlett Johansson returns as the title character, in events that took place prior to her death in Avengers: Endgame.
