The Flash Screenwriter Christina Hodson Praises Director Andy Muschietti

Christina Hodson is currently being lauded for her screenwriting efforts on Birds of Prey. And the positive early buzz for that movie bodes well for her upcoming work on The Flash. The long-awaited solo film headlined by DC’s scarlet speedster has been plagued by numerous setbacks over the last few years, most notably the departures of several directors. Fortunately, it continues to sound like Warner Bros.’ latest candidate to spearhead the film, Andy Muschietti, is here to stay. Now, Hodson is sharing why she feels Muschietti the right choice for the job.

While speaking with ComicBook.com at a Birds of Prey press junket, Hodson expressed her enthusiasm over Muschietti’s involvement. She also explained that he excels at finding the humanity within the spectacle.

“I think Andy’s fantastic,” said Hodson. “What I loved about It, the first one, in particular, is that he can do scary, he can do big genre stuff, but he can also do real heart. He can give those characters real emotional depth. And that’s something that I would love to see in Flash.”

Hodson’s comments echo what Muschietti told Fandango last summer shortly after WB announced him as The Flash’s latest director. He revealed that he was attracted to the project because of the “human drama” and called it “a beautiful human story.” Earlier this month, Muschietti also confirmed that the film is still drawing influence from the Flashpoint storyline. However, it’s going to be more of a loose interpretation.

Warner Bros. hired Hodson to rewrite The Flash’s script last year. This won’t be her last trek through the DC Universe. Hodson remains attached as the writer of a Batgirl spinoff film.

The Flash will hit theaters on July 1, 2022.
