Margot Robbie Says Jared Leto’s Joker Won’t Cameo in Birds of Prey

Well, it seems that Jared Leto has done his time as the Joker in the DC Extended Universe. Now even Margot Robbie seems to confirm that the divorce between the versatile artist and Warner Bros. is definitive. Speaking about how she “fell in love with” Harley Quinn in a recent interview with Variety, the actress confirmed what many had already guessed. “Leto’s incarnation of the character doesn’t appear, not even as a cameo,” reads the article.

Robbie, though, seems to be a great fan of Joaquin Phoenix’ Joker, acknowledging that he “did a phenomenal job” in Todd Phillips’ blockbuster. And speaking of 2019’s Joker, the actress revealed that Birds of Prey has nothing to do with it.

“I feel like the Joker film was much more grounded,” she stated. “Ours is different. It’s heightened.”

When she played Harley Quinn for the first time back in 2016’s Suicide Squad, Robbie couldn’t understand why Harley would love someone who “wants to kill her most of the time.” David Ayer’s movie explored the unhealthy relationship between the two edgy characters, who won’t likely interact on screen for a bit. At least in the DC Extended Universe.  Additionally, Robbie’s skepticism about Harley’s dependency is one of the main reasons for what will be Harley’s (fantabulous) emancipation on-screen in February.

“Harley has this unpredictable nature that means she could react in any way to any situation, which as an actor is just a gift,” Robbie said.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will hit theaters on February 7, 2020. Would you like to see Jared Leto as the Joker one more time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
