Jonah Hill Passes on Matt Reeves’ The Batman

Last month, Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. started looking at actors to fill out The Batman’s supporting cast. One of the names that made the rounds was Jonah Hill, but it looks like he won’t be involved after all. Variety is reporting that Hill has decided to pass on a role in the Dark Knight’s next film.

Hill was supposedly in the running to play a villain in the upcoming reboot. The identity of this character was initially being kept a secret. However, a subsequent report from Collider revealed that he would portray Edward Nygma, a.k.a. the Riddler, in the movie. Things got even weirder when The Hollywood Reporter published its own report alleging that Hill and the studio couldn’t agree on which Batman rogue would better suit his acting talents. Apparently, it was a choice between the Riddler or the Penguin.

Regardless of which character Hill preferred, Variety notes that it was still “very early” in the negotiating process when news of his potential involvement first made headlines. On the same day that Hill was rumored to be joining the film’s cast, another story broke about Jeffrey Wright being “in talks” to play Commissioner Gordon. Warner Bros. has yet to give fans an idea of how discussions with Wright went. Right now, Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz are the only actors confirmed for the film as Batman and Catwoman, respectively.

Reeves is directing The Batman from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin. The film will be released on June 25, 2021.
