The Matrix Comics Will Be Reprinted in a 20th Anniversary Collection

Last month, Matrix fans continued to celebrate the original film’s 20th anniversary with news that a fourth installment is in the works. However, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of another important piece of Matrix media. Now, via Bleeding Cool, The Matrix comics are getting re-released in a deluxe hardcover edition. Whoa.

The Wachowskis published the comics through Burlyman Entertainment. These initially debuted online between 1999 and 2003, although Warner Bros. briefly experimented with handing out physical copies to theatergoers as well.  A number of A-list comic book creators ended up recruited by the Wachowskis to tell stories set in the Matrix universe. Creators who contributed scripts and artwork included Neil Gaiman, Bill Sienkiewicz, Dave Gibbons, and Tim Sale. The Wachowskis also collaborated on a story with Matrix concept artist Geof Darrow. Previously, the comics saw publication in two separate paperback volumes. But this time, they’ve leveled up.
