Mike Mignola Says a Hellboy TV Series Has Been Discussed

Artist Mike Mignola could likely add a new element to the Hellboy world he created very soon. The 1995 Eisner Award winner thinks that a Hellboy television series could be a possibility. Speaking with Comic Book Movie, Mignola revealed that discussions about a Hellboy show have already taken place.

“I think so,” he said. “It’s been discussed; it hasn’t been discussed recently but I would obviously love that. At this point, there’s twenty five years worth of Hellboy material and we’ve barely scratched the surface in terms of any of it being filmed. Also, I think I’ve laid the groundwork for a whole world, and I do it all the time, of new stories set in that Hellboy universe. I would love an outlet for all that material. I don’t know…thank God these decisions are never up to me and I never pursue these things.” Then he added, “I wait for someone to come to me and say ‘We want to do this,’ but I would love to have that conversation.”

Hellboy television series would actually make sense. The latest Hellboy movie starring David Harbour had some difficulties during its filming processes. These problems led to a story that seemed a little bit shallow and rushed. A television series would allow the writers more time to develop the characters and to raise empathy toward them. Some Hellboy narrative arcs like “Wake the Devil” and “The Wolves of Saint Agustin” would be perfect for landing the job. Additionally, the World’s Greatest Paranormal Investigator is part of a shared universe. There would be tons of material to tap into.

Hellboy is now available on Digital HD and Blu-ray. Would you like to see a Hellboy television series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
