Next year, Batman will be immortalized in coral and charcoal when he gets his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But this year’s San Diego Comic-Con is planning its own celebration of the Dark Knight’s 80-year legacy. Via DC, Comic-Con has announced plans to make Batman the inaugural inductee to the Comic-Con Character Museum Hall of Fame.
Batman’s induction will be part of “The Gathering,” the convention’s first annual fundraising event; which will take place in Balboa Park on July 17. The actual festivities will kick off with a “Black Carpet Reception” at 5:00pm PST. Visitors can then proceed to step into the museum’s recreation of Gotham City. Once inside, guests can look at the “authentic Batman props, memorabilia and interactive experiences.” DC has also teased that an assortment of special guests will be attending the proper induction ceremony.

“We are excited to announce we have created a new way in which to honor iconic characters from comics and popular culture with the Comic-Con Museum Character Hall of Fame,” said Comic-Con Museum Executive Director Adam Smith. “And we are equally excited to reveal Batman as our first inductee. 2019 marks the 80th Anniversary of DC’s Batman who has become a truly global icon of popular culture.”
