Avengers: Endgame’s Dave Bautista Says His Relationship With Marvel Is Good

Avengers: Endgame‘s Dave Bautista has presumably buried the hatchet with Disney and Marvel Studios after James Gunn rehire. The actor who portrays Drax the Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has been very vocal in the past about Disney’s controversial decision to fire James Gunn over offensive jokes which the director Tweeted well before his involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking with Pro Wrestling Sheet, Bautista said that he feels his relationship with Disney is actually good, in spite of the recent disagreement.

“I hope it’s good,” Bautista said. “I never really have talked to anybody from Disney, I only ever talk to people from Marvel. And they were very understanding about the way I felt. This is only all speculations, but I think there was a lot of regret after they fired James because they did it so fast, without really researching much and not knowing what the big picture was. I think that they knew they made a mistake. How does a big corporation like that come back and save face? I think they put themselves in a bad spot, but I think they realized early on it was a mistake.”

Then the actor explained the reason he was so vocal for the James Gunn rehire. But he doesn’t take credit for it.

“I won’t take credit for any of that,” he added. “James is my friend. I love him. He helped change my life and I know he’s a decent person. He was being attacked. And what do you do when your friends are attacked? You defend them, or you’re not really a friend. That’s all I was thinking; that’s all I was doing.”
