X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Sophie Turner Compares Her Jean Grey in Dark Phoenix to Sansa Stark

After nearly a decade as Sansa Stark, Sophie Turner has said goodbye to her character in the highly-anticipated Game of Thrones finale. When Dark Phoenix soars into theaters, the British actress will say goodbye to another fan-favorite character of hers, Jean Grey. In a recent interview with HBO, Turner drew a comparison between the two “strong, independent” characters she played

“I’m always drawn to strong, independent women and Sansa and Jean are both that,” Turner said. “They eventually use all of these terrible things that happened to them and they become incredibly strong women.”

In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean nearly dies after a mysterious cosmic force hits her. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Dark Phoenix will bring back much of the cast of the new films including Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), and Evan Peters (Quicksilver).

Simon Kinberg wrote and directed the film, marking his directorial debut. He will also produce alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker.

The last installment to Fox’s X-Men film franchise will hit theaters on June 7.
