The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Gets New Photos, Premiere Date

It’s been a long time coming, but fans of the 80’s classic The Dark Crystal finally know when they’ll see its long-awaited follow-up. Netflix has revealed not only an official launch date for its series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, but also several new images. It will make its premiere on August 30, with ten episodes to tell its story.

The series’ events will take place years before the original film, according to the official synopsis provided by Netflix.

Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

In the images, which you can see in the gallery below, we get glimpses at several characters. These include Deet, Rian, and Brea, as well as the Scroll-Keeper, the Scientist and the Skeksis Banquet.
