In spite of a devoted cult following, Ben Edlund’s The Tick hasn’t had much luck on TV over the last 20+ years. The latest small-screen translation is, sadly, no different. Variety brings word that Amazon Prime won’t renew The Tick for another season.
Edlund, who also developed the TV show, broke the news on Twitter today. You can read what he had to say below.

The Tick’s pilot episode debuted on Amazon Prime in 2016 with Peter Serafinowicz assuming the role of the title character. Its inaugural season was split into two parts, with the first half airing in August 2017 and the latter half airing in February 2018. The series returned last month with a truncated season of 10 episodes. Obviously, this wasn’t the first attempt at bringing The Tick to TV. In the early 2000s, Patrick Warburton headlined a Fox series featuring the character that lasted for one season consisting of only nine episodes.
Thankfully, Edlund’s tweets indicate that he intends to shop the series around to other platforms. Since the show has garnered positive reviews since its reception and fans seem to be responding well to Serafinowicz’s take on the character, this might not be the last we see of the insect superhero.
