Jason Momoa Offers Update on Aquaman 2: ‘The Beard Will be Back by Then’

Jason Momoa offers Aquaman 2 update: ‘The beard will be back by then’

Jason Momoa is ready to head back into the ocean. The Aquaman star spoke with Ellen Degeneres (via CinemaBlend) about the upcoming sequel, Aquaman 2. Though it’s not scheduled to hit theaters until 2022, Momoa revealed they’re already hard at work.

I was really, really, really, passionate, to do the second one because it’s the first time where it’s all on Earth. It’s combining land and sea, kind of like what I’m doing with this [environmental cause]. There’s no outside aliens destroying Earth, it’s us. And so I was excited to get back in there, and so I’ve been working with our previous writer, and getting in there, and we’ve got a locked story, and we’re getting into it. And I think it’s going to be like in two years or whatever. The beard will be back by then.”

Aquaman became the biggest success for the DC films, which have a history of faltering at the box office, with the exception of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. It grossed over $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office earning its spot as the highest grossing DC film of all-time for Warner Bros, and revealed the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry (Momoa) and took him on the journey of his lifetime — one that forced him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.
