The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal has had a fortuitous television career. Although he began acting in the mid-’90s, his breakthrough came when he played Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones. Now, he’s set to leave his mark on another beloved franchise with The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Pascal shared his thoughts on how the two properties are similar.
“I see enormous parallels between the world of Star Wars and the world of Game of Thrones,” said Pascal. “Game of Thrones might not exist if not for Star Wars, in the way that this world-building genre [took] science fiction to a new level in the way that Game of Thrones takes fantasy to a new level. And the way that it represents such concrete realities that we live in, although the irony being that it’s science fiction and fantasy.”

Pascal’s casting as the titular bounty hunter isn’t the first time the worlds of Star Wars and Game of Thrones have intersected. GoT veterans Gwendoline Christie and Emilia Clarke have gone on to appear in different Star Wars movies as Captain Phasma in the sequel trilogy and Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story, respectively. Additionally, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are developing their own Star Wars films.
The Mandalorian will premiere with the launch of Disney+ on November 12.
