The Long Night Becomes the Most-Viewed Game of Thrones Episode

Spoiler warning for Episode 8.03 of Game of Thrones!

The most recent episode of the eighth season of HBO’s epic drama saw the army of dead coming to Winterfell’s doorsteps. The Battle of Winterfell suddenly ended after Arya Stark killed the Night King, and the dead could proceed no longer. According to Deadline, episode three of Game of Thrones became the most viewed episode in the series’ history after snaring 17.8 million viewers over all platforms and with two linear airings.

The season 8 debut set the previous record with a total of 17.4 million viewers, breaking several ratings records in the US, the UK and worldwide. Game of Thrones is at the moment the most watched series ever in the history of HBO.

“The Long Night” fell 55,000 viewers short of breaking the all time record on the linear channel though, with “only” 12.02 million viewers on April 28. The most viewed episode on the linear channel in the series history remains for now the Season 7 finale “The Dragon and The Wolf” with 12.07 million viewers.

The third episode of the eighth and last season of GoT also broke another record. With its 82 minutes of broadcasting, “The Long Night” has become the longest episode so far in GoT’s history. There are only three episodes left before the series grand finale, which will air on May 19. Executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will direct themselves GoT’s much-anticipated last episode, which at the moment doesn’t have a title.
