Stan Lee’s Alliances: A Trick of Light is Coming to Audible This Summer

Even into his 90s, Stan Lee never stopped working. Now, one of his final creative endeavors is about to be released as an audiobook series. Via ComicBook.com, Stan Lee’s Alliances: A Trick of Light will arrive on Audible this summer.

Lee co-created the series with Luke Lieberman (son of Lee’s POW! Entertainment co-founder Arthur Lieberman) and Ryan Silbert. A Trick of Light centers on Midwestern teenager Cameron Ackerson, his best friend Juaquo, and a mysterious young woman named Nia. According to the press release, Cameron’s desire to become YouTube famous brings him to the Great Lakes Triangle. There, he gains the power to “see” and “hear” a new reality.

Described as an origin story not unlike those of Lee’s most famous superheroes, Nia and Cameron soon run into trouble. Their “righteous online universe” attracts the unwanted attention of OPTIC, a secret organization that begins hunting them. Additionally, they must deal with a cosmic threat with the potential to wipe out all of humanity.

Kat Rosenfield, the Edgar-nominated writer of Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone, co-authored the series with Lee. Although Lee’s work has transcended media over the last six decades, A Trick of Light marks his first audiobook project. Liberman and Silbert discussed Lee’s fascination with newer formats in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“One of the things he was looking at with respect to VR and AR and [the internet] was our ability to craft these versions of ourselves, these avatars that we present to the world and what the relationship is between that and who we really are,” Lieberman said.

“His early influences in serialized storytelling were the radio play,” added Silbert. “The idea of serialized storytelling, really finds its roots in comic books and in radio plays. To come back to that full circle was really exciting for him.”

Stan Lee’s Alliances: A Trick of Light debuts on June 27. You can watch a trailer (featuring a voice-over from Stan the Man himself!) below and pre-order the book via Audible’s official website. Will you be checking out the series when it premieres? Let us know in the comment section below!
