Despite his future involvement in the franchise being up in the air, Simon Kinberg is excited for the X-Men’s future. Speaking with Variety, Kinberg said that it would be “pretty exciting” seeing Tony Stark in one of the X-Men movies, now that Disney’s acquisition of Fox is complete.
“I would say probably either somebody from Wakanda or Iron Man,” Kinberg said. “I mean, I love Downey; I’ve worked with him. I love what he does with that character. He created the tonal template for the MCU with the first Iron Man movie. So the notion of Iron Man popping up in X-Men, or Iron Man interacting with Deadpool, is pretty exciting.“

Kingberg’s upcoming Dark Phoenix will seemingly be the last X-Men movie under the Fox banner, as the characters will eventually become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How they will interact with the rest of the MCU still remains to be seen.
The X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe when one of their own, Jean Grey, starts to spiral out of control. During a rescue mission in outer space, Jean is nearly killed when she’s hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. The X-Men must now band together to save her soul and battle aliens that want to use Grey’s new abilities to rule the galaxy.
Dark Phoenix opens June 7.
