Disney Parks is ramping up promotional efforts for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, an upcoming pair of theme park attractions opening on both coasts later this year. A number of outlets, including StarWars.com, were recently treated to preview tours of the Disneyland location. And they shared a lot of new information on what visitors can experience for themselves when the parks launch.
Galaxy’s Edge promises to be the most immersive Star Wars experience yet. It also happens to be the biggest. At over 14 acres, Galaxy’s Edge is the largest themed expansion in the history of Disney Parks. Scott Trowbridge, the the portfolio creative executive of Walt Disney Imagineering, likened it to “a small city in our parks.” Guests will have the opportunities to take home exciting souvenirs from their visit, including custom-made droids and lightsabers. The lightsabers will come complete with their own unique kyber crystals. If that’s not enough, visitors can also purchase their own sets of Jedi robes at Black Spire Outfitters.
We already knew that both parks depict Batuu, an Outer Rim haven for the galaxy’s seediest denizens. However, by using the official Disney Parks App, visitors can partake in a live-action role-playing experience and unlock various stories and missions spanning the entire land. Additionally, patrons will encounter the likes of Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and BB-8 on Rise of the Resistance. This ride puts fans on a Star Destroyer and tasks them with escaping from the First Order and Kylo Ren. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac will reprise their roles from the films via onscreen appearances.

But most impressively of all, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels fans can interact with Hondo Ohnaka. Galaxy’s Edge’s recreation of the Weequay pirate is now the second most intricately designed animatron to grace a Disney park. His movements are so life-like, he can pass as an actor under prosthetic makeup. Hondo will welcome visitors onto the Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run ride. You can check out a video of the character below.
Of course, every theme park needs its diverse assortment of food. And befitting the Star Wars universe, Galaxy’s Edge will have plenty of barely pronounceable, vowel-heavy options to choose from. Whether they want to gorge on Fried Endorian Tip-Yip or just kick back with a glass of Blue Milk, Disney has Star Wars fans covered.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in California’s Disneyland Resort this summer and in Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort in the fall. Will you be checking out either of the parks when they open? What are you most excited to see? Let us know in the comment section below!
