Ghostbusters and Transformers Join Forces in Comic Book Crossover

Since the Ghostbusters landed at IDW in 2008, the original Ghostbusters have crossed paths with nearly every incarnation of the team and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But now, the Ghostbusters are about to meet the “Robots in Disguise” in a crossover event.

Via io9, IDW has announced a five-issue Ghostbusters and Transformers crossover miniseries. Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening, and Luis Antonio Delgado will be the creative team that brings these two franchises together. If the early art is any indication, the original Ghostbusters will be meeting the Generation 1 Autobots and Decepticons. Additionally, the Ghostbusters’ beloved ride, Ecto-1, will become an Autobot named Ectotron. Naturally, Hasbro is making a Transformers/Ghostbusters Ecto-1 figure in a bit of synergy with the comic. Ectotron even comes with his own proton pack and Slimer.

According to io9, the Autobots and Decepitcons will discover “a strange Cybertronian signal emanating from Earth” that leads to a potential threat. Since the “threat’ is broadly hinted to be supernatural in nature, Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, and Zeddemore will team up with the Autobots to stop it. Dan Schoening, Paulina Ganucheau, Nick Roche, and Alex Milne will provide covers for the miniseries.

John Barber, IDW’s Editor-in-Chief, also shared his feelings about the upcoming comic event.

“1984 was a seismic shift for entertainment, the year that launched both Transformers and Ghostbusters,” said Barber. “Back then, Little John Barber was right there for Transformers and a little scared of Ghostbusters—but now, I’m a bit braver and can’t wait to see the two worlds collide.”

The first issue of the Ghostbusters and Transformers crossover will hit in June. Are you excited to see these two franchises collide? Let us know in the comment section below!
