Zachary Levi Expresses Disappointment in Previous MCU Role

Though Zachary Levi is ready to enter the DC Extended Universe as Shazam, this is not the first time Levi has assumed the role of a character with magical powers in a comic book world. Previously, Levi played one of the Warriors Three – Fandral – in Thor: The Dark World and in Thor: Ragnarok. Speaking with Empire, Levi said expressed some frustration with his MCU character, saying?:

I just don’t think those characters were quite utilized to the best of their abilities. Thor and the Warriors Three could have been a really cool little trilogy of team movies, and we didn’t really have that much impact. Particularly not in Ragnarok – I mean, I didn’t even have a line.

In addition to the interview, a new photo from the film was revealed in Empire showing Levi’s Shazam ready for battle. The superhero is standing tall in rubble at a carnival.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! will hit theaters on April 5.
