Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Star Teases the Search for Fitz

Warning: There are minor spoilers ahead for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6!

While the fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. briefly acknowledged the arrival of Thanos’ forces in Avengers: Infinity War, the upcoming sixth season is going to skip over the fallout. Via TVLine, the story will pick up one year after Phil Coulson’s death in Tahiti. And at least the early part of the season will be focused on the search for Fitz.

According to series star Elizabeth Henstridge, “Jemma is ‘a woman on a mission.” Her husband, Fitz, was killed in the season finale. But because the team broke the time loop, the version of Fitz who went to the future is still alive. He’s simply frozen in stasis somewhere in space.

‘Fitz is one elusive, sexy bastard!’ added Henstridge. She also said that ‘this season is a departure from other stuff we’ve done.’”

The recently released season 6 teaser trailer revealed that Jemma will find Fitz at some point. But as an added complication, she’s not actually married to the Fitz in stasis. She married the version who successfully rescued the team from a dark future.

Another intriguing element of the teaser was Clark Gregg’s reappearance. The show’s creative team are insisting that Coulson is dead, and Gregg is playing a new character. Given the upcoming release of Captain Marvel, it’s likely that Gregg is playing a Skrull. But there may also be another explanation behind Coulson’s doppelganger.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for its sixth season this summer on ABC. Are you looking forward to the search for Fitz? And what’s your theory about Gregg’s new character? Let us know in the comment section below!
