Aquaman Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide!

Aquaman crosses $1 billion worldwide

Warner Bros.’ Aquaman slipped into second place at the domestic box office, but crossed an extraordinary feat for the DCEU by breaking the $1 billion mark worldwide. The film brought in $17.26 million at the US box office for the weekend, giving it a domestic total of $287.86 million and putting it within striking distance of surpassing 2013’s Man of Steel domestic total (which ended its run with $291 million). Internationally the film added another $27.9 million to its tally, giving it an international total of $732.4 million and a global total of $1.02 billion.

The closest entry in the DCEU to reach this threshold was Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with $873.6 million. Worldwide totals of other films in the connected cinematic universe include Justice League with $657 million, Man of Steel with $668 million, Suicide Squad with $746 million, and Wonder Woman with $821.8 million. Compared to other DC films though, Aquaman has just bested 2008’s The Dark Knight and is close to crossing The Dark Knight Rises‘ final total of $1.084 billion to become the highest grossing DC movie of all time (without factoring in inflation adjustments).

From Warner Bros. Pictures comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas. The film, starring Jason Momoa (Justice LeagueGame of Thrones) in the title role, reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

Also starring is Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Captain Murk, Atlantean Commando, and Temeura Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the ClonesGreen Lantern) as Arthur’s dad, Tom Curry.

Directed by James Wan from a script by Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2), from the story by Geoff Johns, Wan and Beall, the film is being produced by Peter Safran and Rob Cowan, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg, Walter Hamada, and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.
