George Lucas Visits Jon Favreau on the Set of The Mandalorian!

George Lucas visits The Mandalorian set!

Jon Favreau continues to share snippets of behind-the-scenes material from the set of his upcoming Star Wars show The Mandalorian, including fun callbacks to the Star Wars Holiday Special. However, his newest post might just send fans into a full on frenzy — in a good way — as the director revealed a surprise guest to the set as none other than George Lucas himself. Check out the post below!

That’s right. The man. The myth. The legend. He’s back! Lucas’ visit to The Mandalorian set took place on Favreau’s birthday, which is really cool. The visit is also kind of a big deal considering that he has mostly spurned The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi after his ideas were thrown out by Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams. He has previously visited the sets of both Rogue One and Solo, however. In any case, it’s cool to see the Star Wars creator still very much invested in the franchise.

The Mandalorian is currently in production. The directors for the series were officially announced and include Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) who will direct the first episode. Additional episodes will be directed by  Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). The Mandalorian will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.

The 10-episode first season will reportedly have a combined budget of $100 million, making each episode cost approximately $10 million. It has also been announced that Disney is currently developing multiple limited series featuring characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for their upcoming streaming service.

The Mandalorian does not yet have a release date but the Disney direct-to-consumer platform will launch in late 2019.
