Exclusive Preview: Extermination #3 Sends the X-Men on the Run

Hank McCoy, a.k.a. the Beast, brought the original five X-Men to the present years ago. Hank wanted to avert a mutant civil war, but he inadvertently created an even bigger problem when the O5 X-Men wouldn’t return to their own time. Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast (Hank’s counterpart), Angel, and Iceman decided to stay in the present. They wanted to save our world, but they’ve been irrevocably changed by the experience. In Extermination, the bill has come due, and Ahab is here to collect!

Ed Brisson and artist Pepe Larraz continue their story next week in Extermination #3, which picks up shortly after Ahab attacked the X-Mansion. In an alternate future, Ahab was able to turn Rachel Summers/Grey into a Hound, a merciless mutant hunter after years of psychological torture. Ahab just pulled off the same trick with Old Man Logan in less than a minute. Naturally, he can’t resist explaining how he did it.

Cable has proven to be the wildcard in this adventure. The older Cable was seemingly murdered by his younger counterpart. That caused both Jean Greys to mourn their surrogate son. Is Cable truly gone? Young Jean is teaming up with X-Force to get some answers from Kid Cable. Angel and Iceman are already prisoners of Kid Cable, which means he’s only three X-Men away from finishing his mission. Jean and her friends may not live to see tomorrow, or even yesterday! Ahab has already killed one X-Man, which one will fall next? It’s the end of an era for the team, but not everyone is going to make it home intact.

Here’s the official description from Marvel: “With Ahab hunting the time-traveling X-Men, it’s all hands on deck, as every X-Men team is called to arms and protect the remaining young mutants. But young Jean Grey and her bodyguards aren’t going to lie still for Ahab to come to them…”
