Batman Won’t Be Appearing on the Batwoman TV Series

The CW president Mark Pedowitz confirmed today that Batman will not be appearing on the network’s superhero shows, specifically the in-development Batwoman series.

“There’s no discussion about a series,” Pedowitz said (via EW). Batman already exists in the Arrowverse because last season Oliver Queen mentioned his name at one point. And Batwoman, if the series goes forward, lives in Gotham. There’s no plan at this time to have Batman appear.”

The outlet notes that the network would need to obtain permission from Warner Bros. before adding Batman to its roster, which is part of the reason why Gotham follows Bruce Wayne’s origin story as a kid. In 2008, The CW had to scrap plans for a Dick Grayson series called The Graysons because of the studio.

So, for anyone waiting for a Batman-led CW series or even a glimpse of the caped crusader on Arrow or the upcoming Batwoman, it looks like you’ll be waiting for a long time.

In the meantime, fans can prepare for the debut of Batwoman during the annual crossover event as the characters from Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow make their way to Gotham City. The spin-off pilot for the Batwoman character is being written by Caroline Dries and produced by Greg Berlanti.

The next CW crossover event is set to air in December 2018. If the Batwoman pilot is picked up, the series could air in 2019.
