David Harbour talks ‘very practical’ and action heavy Hellboy reboot

Production has wrapped on the upcoming reboot of Hellboy, and star David Harbour had high praise for the film and spoke about the practical effects being used in its making.

“It was crazy. It was the hardest job I’ve ever done,” Harbor told MTV at the Golden Globes. “The action that I’m doing in the movie, the rolling around on the ground and punching — things that a 40-year-old man should not be doing — and on top of that, the tremendous amount of prosthetics and makeup, but at the end of the day we would shoot some pretty beautiful stuff. And pretty unique stuff for this type of universe. A lot of it [was] very practical, Practical monsters and practical fights — not a lot of CGI.”

In the film, Harbour is joined by Ian McShane (Deadwood, American Gods) who will play Hellboy’s adoptive father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm (aka Professor Broom), Milla Jovovich (The Fifth ElementResident Evil franchise) has been cast as villain Nimue aka the Blood Queen, Sasha Lane (American Honey) will play Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell (Hemlock Grove) will play the elder witch Ganeida, and Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0LOST) is playing Major Ben Daimio.

Neil Marshall (The DescentGame of Thrones) will direct from a script by Andrew Cosby (Eureka), Christopher Golden and Mike Mignola. Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin will produce with Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment.

Hellboy will debut in theaters on January 11, 2019.
