Deadpool Has Nothing But Love for Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman passes Deadpool at the box office, and the Merc with a Mouth has nothing but respect

This weekend, Gal Gadot‘s DC Comics heroine officially passed the already-impressive domestic take of 20th Century Fox‘s Marvel hero, Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth has nothing but love for the “Distinguished Competition,” however, posting the following to the official Deadpool twitter feed (and retweeted by Reynolds himself):

While Deadpool ultimately took in $363 million domestically, Wonder Woman‘s weekend performance allowed the film to hit $368 million, with audiences still eager to see the film week after week. Worldwide, Deadpool still has the edge. His debut movie brought in just over $783 million worldwide, while Wonder Woman’s total currently stands at $745 million.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Robin Wright (The Girl with the Dragon TattooNetflix‘s House of Cards), Ewen Bremner (Exodus: Gods and KingsSnowpiercer), Saïd Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Connie Nielsen (GladiatorNymphomaniac: Vol. I) and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead),

Wonder Woman was produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder, with Richard Suckle, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Rebecca Roven serving as executive producers.

A sequel to Deadpool, meanwhile, is currently filming with a storyline that will team Wade Wilson with Josh Brolin‘s Cable and Zazie Beetz‘s Domino. Jack Kesy (The StrainBaywatch) is attached to play the film’s central villain which, while unconfirmed, is rumored to be Irish mutant Black Tom Cassidy. Japanese actress Shioli Kutsuna and Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) have also joined the film in mystery roles.

Other stars returning from the first Deadpool include Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Stefan Kapicic as the voice of Colossus.

Deadpool 2 is set to debut in theaters on June 1, 2018.
