Mad Max Sequels: Tom Hardy Wants Back in the Driver’s Seat

Its been nearly a year since Mad Max: Fury Road mastermind George Miller confirmed he’s working on the Mad Max sequels, stating, “It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.” Now, Tom Hardy has revealed to TheWrap that he’s also still game to strap himself back into a nitro truck and scream through the wasteland once more.

“Yeah I believe so!” Hardy said about whether the sequels were still percolating. “I don’t know when that starts, but I believe that’s in the books. There’s a couple of those floating around. I’m waiting for the call to come.” Hardy then added of Best Picture nominee and six-time Oscar winner Fury Road“It was so good, man.” Indeed, Tom, indeed.

In January 2016, Miller made comments Studio 360 where he discussed his plans for the sequels and the potential for himself — and others — to direct the films.

“What happened to Max after ‘Fury Road’? What happened before ‘Fury Road’? What happened to the other characters?” Miller said. “Those stories are there — probably not as the next film but the film after. I’d like to do one of them. We’ll see. As John Lennon said, life is what happens when you’re making other plans. There are so many other directors out there. People are directing younger and younger. They’re getting a real sense of cinema very, very early. There are some great directors out there.”

While Mad Max 5 and 6 are still years away, it’s good to know that Tom Hardy is game to slap on the leather jacket again for the role he was first cast in way back in 2009. All we know of Part 5 right now is Charlize Theron’s Furiosa is not expected to play a central role. Even the proposed title Miller previously revealed for the next movie, “Mad Max: The Wasteland,” is also apparently in flux.
