Han Solo Movie Targets Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson is in talks to play Han Solo’s mentor in the Phil Lord and Chris Miller film

Woody Harrelson is the latest name said to be in talks to join the upcoming Han Solo movie. Variety has the news, reporting that Harrelson will play a mentor figure to Alden Ehrenreich’s title scoundrel. The current cast also includes Community and Atlanta‘s Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and an undisclosed role for Game of ThronesEmilia Clarke. Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie) are directing.

The screenplay for the Han Solo movie hails written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan and will focus on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley. It has also been confirmed that Chewbacca will also be a featured character in the film and, while unconfirmed, it is likely that The Force Awakens‘ Joonas Suotamo will reprise the role.

Woody Harrelson is no stranger to science fiction sagas. He famously played another mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, in all four films in the the hit Hunger Games franchise. He can also be seen coming up in 20th Century Fox‘s War For the Planet of the Apes. Look for the Matt Reeves film to hit theaters July 14.

Slated for a May 25, 2018 release, the Han Solo movie will be executive produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, meanwhile, hits theaters December 16, 2016.
