Has 20th Century Fox Found Their Deadpool 2 Director?

Could John Wick’s David Leitch be 20th Century Fox’s new Deadpool 2 director?

Less than a week after word broke that 20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool sequel lost director Tim Miller to creative differences comes word that a new Deadpool 2 director may already have been found. Mashable reports that David Leitch is a “strong frontrunner” for the Deadpool 2 director job. Leitch co-directed John Wick, the hit Keanu Reeves actioner, with Chad Stahleski. In addition to years of experience working second unit, the pair also own and operate 87Eleven Action Design, a Hollywood choreography studio that builds fight sequences and trains stuntmen for some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.

Since releasing John Wick in 2014, Leitch and Stahleski have been busy on a number of projects, including adaptations of Valiant‘s Bloodshot and Image Comics‘ Cowboy Ninja Viking (the latter of which has Chris Pratt attached to play the lead). Before all of that, though, 2017 is bringing us both the Leitch-helmed The Coldest City, starring Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, and the Stahleski-helmed John Wick: Chapter 2. Set for a February 10, 2017 release, the sequel sees the return of Reeves opposite Common, John Leguizamo, Lance Reddick, Tom Sadowski, Bridget Moynahan, Ruby Rose, Riccardo Scamarcio, Peter Stormare and Ian McShane.

The original Deadpool brought in over $782 million worldwide and received primarily positive reviews from fan and critic alike. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, “the real heroes here” who penned the first film, are returning to write the sequel. Reynolds is again serving as a producer on Deadpool 2 alongside X-Men franchise caretakers Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.
