Gunn and Diesel Talk Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Groot Script

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer/director James Gunn gave Vin Diesel a first look at the anticipated sequel yesterday and the actor jumped onto Facebook live to share his reaction and to talk about the characters in the film. Of note is that, in the video, Gunn says that the first movie was about becoming a family and the sequel is about being a family. He adds that he thinks being a family is harder. Regarding Diesel’s character Groot, Gunn also revealed that there is a special version of the script for the actor. “This is the special Groot version of the script that only Vin Diesel and I have, where every Groot line is printed in English instead of Groot, so Vin will know what the various ‘I am Groot’s’ mean. I love putting this thing together.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cast includes the return of Chris Pratt (Jurassic World, Parks and Recreation) Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Star Trek) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (SPECTRE, The Man with the Iron Fists) as Drax; Vin Diesel (xXx, Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (Joy, American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Slither, Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, “Gilmore Girls”) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), who plays Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (“The Knick,” The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, Furious 7) as Ego.

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Nik Korda and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Look for it to hit the big screen May 5, 2017.
