The Flash Producers Talk Season 3 Villains, Plus Another Speedster is Coming

The upcoming third season of The Flash is already set to break new ground from the previous seasons by going with the alternate dimension of Flashpoint and introducing two new villains in Savitar and Dr. Alchemy. Speaking with TVLine, executive producers Aaron and Todd Helbing spoke about adding the pair and how they differ from Reverse-Flash and Zoom.

“[Season 3] is more about psychological warfare,” Aaron Helbing tells the outlet.

“[We’re] trying to have the powers that they both possess play off of each other,” Todd Helbing adds. “It’s not just, ‘Oh, I have to catch this guy and take him down.’ It’s like, ‘Crap, now there’s this other guy, Dr. Alchemy,’ who has these transmutation qualities [via] this Philosopher’s Stone. You start to learn what he does with this stuff and how the both of them are coexisting.”

The pair also spoke about the series’ tone, attributing the final episodes of Season 2’s darkness to Zoom and revealing they’re consciously shifting the series back to the lighter tone of the first season.

In additional Season 3 news, Harry Potter star Tom Felton spoke about his character’s relationship with Barry Allen in the new season as well.

“He’s a forensic expert,” Felton tells SciFiNow (via Comic Book), “so he treads on the toes of much of what Barry is good at. Hence they have a slightly abrasive relationship at first… He’s not familiar with me, but I’m familiar with him, so it’s an odd dynamic. It seems like a love/hate thing at first.”

Finally, though unconfirmed, the Canadagraphs Twitter account (noted for its frequent set photos of television productions in Vancouver) tweeted that they ran into Violett Beane as Jesse Chambers, albeit in a heroic costume as Jesse Quick. With the addition of Savitar and Kid Flash in the new season, it looks like The Flash is adding more speedsters than ever to its roster.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramo, Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells and Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West. Season 2 of the series also introduced Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West and the Earth-2 version of The Flash as played by John Wesley Shipp (who also played Barry’s father, Henry Allen). The Flash Season 3 premiere is already set to debut on The CW on Tuesday, October 4 at 8 PM ET.
