David Goyer Offers Update on Superman Prequel Series Krypton

An update on Superman prequel series Krypton

This time last year, a rumor popped up that Man of Steel screenwriter David Goyer was developing a TV series prequel to the film set entirely on the superhero’s home world of Krypton. Syfy would later confirm the news last December, but there have been no updates on the project since then. Now, in promoting the final season of his series “Da Vinci’s Demons,” Goyer opened up about the series and offered some updates, saying it’s still in development.

“In terms of production value, you have to pick your moments,” Goyer tells Collider. “Should we make the show, there will definitely be some big moments. It won’t be wall to wall visual effects every single moment, spectacle, in the way that the film will be, but we’ll also be digging into the characters and the culture a lot more.”

In speaking with ComicBook.com, Goyer revealed when the series takes place and where they’re looking for inspiration.

“It takes place 200 years before Man of Steel. We’re treating Krypton like it’s a historical piece. We look to previous cultures on Earth to model what that would be like….We scratched the surface in the film and, for me, that was the allure. I was always fascinated, as a kid, with the books about Krypton and they’ve only shaded in a tiny bit, so we’ll learn about the politics of the world. We’ll learn about the culture, the art, all the different guilds.”

Should Krypton make it to the small screen, it joins an ever-growing roster of DC Entertainment shows with The CW’s Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, CBS’ upcoming Supergirl, FOX’s Gotham, and the in-development Titans at TNT and Powerless on NBC.
