NBC is Developing a RED TV series

A RED TV series is coming to NBC

Following yesterday’s reveal that NBC is developing a half-hour comedy with DC Entertainment called PowerlessDeadline reports that another comic book property is in development at the network with an adaptation of the RED films.

Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber, who wrote the screenplays for the films, will executive produce the series along with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian. The outlet notes that the series will “retain the core concept of the films but will be set in a more grounded and authentic world, focusing on the characters’ darkly hilarious struggles to survive civilian life as they simultaneously fight for and against the very organization that threw them out.”

Based on the comic book by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer, the Wildstorm mini-series was adapted into the 2010 film starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Karl Urban, Mary-Louise Parker, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss, Julian McMahon, and Ernest Borgnine. It went on to gross just under $200 million at the global box office, and was followed in 2013 by a sequel that totaled over $148 million at the box office.

An acronym for “Retired Extremely Dangerous,” the films took a comedic approach to the material, wherein an older spy is forced to fight back against the CIA and all its whippersnapper, young agents.
