Captain America: Civil War to Film IMAX Scenes!

Marvel Studios will be entering “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of next summer’s Captain America: Civil War and has today revealed that the film will also mark the first Marvel Studios feature to shoot in IMAX. According to a story today at Variety, the Joe and Anthony Russo film will make use of the company’s new 2D Arri camera to capture about 15 minutes of Civil War, including a scene that Joe Russo says will have “some incredible scale to it.”

“We like being on the cutting edge of technology,” said Russo, “and we like to enhance storytelling with technology in a way that pushes the narrative forward creatively. When you’re working on a Marvel film, there’s a sense of showmanship that goes along with the movies, and no exhibitor exploits that better than Imax.”

The cast for Captain America: Civil War continues to grow, in what Anthony Mackie calls “Avengers 3.8.” In addition to Chris Evans reprising his title role, Civil War will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mackie as The Falcon, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Chadwick Boseman in his MCU debut as Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, and the brand-new Spider-Man.

Look for Captain America: Civil War to hit the big screen May 6, 2016.
