The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 87th Academy Awards Thursday morning, January 15, and several superhero films were among the nominees including Guardians of the Galaxy for Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling, Big Hero 6 for Best Animated Feature Film, and The LEGO Movie for Best Original Song for “Everything is Awesome.”
In addition, all of the nominees for Achievement in Visual Effects are films covered here and include: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy, Interstellar, and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Set to be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, The 87th Annual Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
