Following the countless teases that Marvel Comics has released for their summer 2015 event, it’s only fair that the distinguished competition gets their turn to reveal a thing or two and now they have. USA Today brings word on Convergence, the DC event that will run during April and May of next year, while DC Comics shift their main offices from New York City to Burbank, California.
The series, previously teased at the end of the Superman: Doomed storyline, will reveal that big bad Brainiac has taken cities from both planets and timelines that no longer exist and trapped them in bottles, much like the very famous bottle city of Kandor. The event kicks off when Brainiac takes all of these different cities and pours them into one big dome, hence “Convergence.”
“There is a story and a character for every generation of DC Comics fan,” says co-publisher Dan DiDio. “We’re picking up at points of their lives where we left them and finding out what’s gone on with them since then.”
“What we’re really addressing is they all exist and have existed and exist within the framework of the New 52,” artist and co-publisher Jim Lee explains. “Convergence is in many ways the most meta epic event we’ve done.”
Convergence will be split into forty two-part miniseries all with different artists and writers exploring the lives of the various heroes and villains from the DC multiverse, while it’s being published all of DC’s regularly scheduled books will be put in a nine-week hiatus.
Jeff King of “White Collar” and “Stargate SG-1” fame will be penning the primary Convergence storyline with help from Dan Jurgens on the zero issue and an outline from Scott Lobdell.
