Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few weeks, you’ve no doubt noticed that Marvel Comics is planning something big for the summer of 2015, and they’re going about it by way of event stories from years past. The latest is none other than Avengers vs. X-Men, which was just published two years ago. Check out the teaser image, with art by Skottie Young, below.
What does it all mean? For some time now we’ve been trumpeting the theory that it all has to do with the recently-announced Secret Wars series, and that these comics will spin out of that series, but how does Avengers vs. X-Men fit into it? Some of the other stories that have been teased feature alternate world stories like Age of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies, Future Imperfect, and Age of Apocalypse, but some have taken place in the primary Marvel Universe such as Civil War, Armor Wars, and of course, Avengers vs. X-Men.
When the Secret Wars series begins next year, time will have “run out” as Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers run has been teasing for months now. Also, following the initial “Age of Ultron” story, we know that time is broken in the Marvel Universe, so is the entire history of the Marvel Universe collapsing in on itself?
