Robert Downey Jr. Teases His Continued Journey as Iron Man

Despite saying last month that “there’s no plan for a fourth ‘Iron Man,'” Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., seems to be hinting at more appearances as the character in the future. When asked in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about his future as the Marvel hero, he offered a more cryptic answer.

“I’m sure we’ll ride that thing. You’ve got to surf that all the way in to shore,” Downey said. “I think I was at the forefront of something that was coming into being, and I think it has carried me as much as I have informed it. That’s the healthy way to look at it. It’s so easy to become inflated by the successes, but what they really are are long, strong trends. It’s just another wave.”

Downey is currently only signed on for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron and the untitled and undated third Avengers film, but given his frankness in last month’s interview, could he be referring to future appearances as Tony Stark only in Marvel’s “Avengers” films? Or has the House of Ideas been planning a fourth venture for the old shellhead all along?

The next time we’ll see Downey Jr. as Iron Man will be on May 1, 2015. Where would you like to see him after that?
