Jessica Chastain Would ‘Love to do a Superhero Movie’

Audiences want to see a female lead superhero film. It’s no secret that there is a high demand for female characters in big budget films, and some of the studios are trying to place the “First!” game in getting one out there. Just two days after Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige gave a non-committal answer on the subject, Sony announced that they were developing a female-led Spider-Man spin-off, plus Warner Bros. has Wonder Woman waiting in the wings. Everyone wants these movies, including the actresses that would star in them.

Speaking with The Guardian, two time Academy Award-nominee Jessica Chastain spoke up about the subject, saying: “I would love to do a superhero movie! I would have loved to have played Black Widow.”

Chastain has come close to appearing in a superhero movie before. She was initially cast in the Maya Hansen role in Iron Man 3 but dropped out. She went on to address her reasoning for not appearing in a superhero movie and what she would like to do in one.

“A couple of times I’ve gotten really close. The problem is, if I do a superhero movie, I don’t want to be the girlfriend. I don’t want to be the daughter. I want to wear a f***ing cool costume with a scar on my face, with fight scenes. That’s what I’d love.”

A few weeks ago, we debuted a new featured article here called 11 Characters Marvel Studios Should Consider for a Female Led Movie, and if we may direct you there again, we think Chastain would be perfect for a number of these characters, especially Elsa Bloodstone, Rachel Cole-Alves, and Captain Marvel herself.

The world of both Marvel and DC are filled with incredible female characters just ripe for a big screen adventure, and when audiences and actresses equally want to see those characters come to life it’s time for the studios and the powers that be to make it happen.
