Variety reports that the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past is currently tracking for a $125 million opening weekend, which would give it the biggest debut for a film in the franchise. The highest grossing entry in the series, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, also opened on Memorial Day weekend to the tune of $122.8 million and in fact held the Memorial Day record before the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull were released.
The site also mentions that insiders predict “Days of Future Past” could make as much as $250 million domestically, and given that every “X-Men” film has seen the percentage of its foreign grosses increase, it’s entirely possible that this will be the highest-grossing “X-Men” film of all time by the end of its theatrical run. How much money do you think X-Men: Days of Future Past will bring in?
Opening in theaters on May 23, the film stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, Lucas Till and Evan Jonigkeit.
The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class, in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.
