GLaDOS Filter to be Slightly Less in Pacific Rim Compared to Trailer

Del Toro tells the Toronto Sun that was the intention and he got the permission of Valve, but he added that the A.I. voice won’t sound as much like GLaDOS in the final film.

While there won’t be a crossover between the worlds of Pacific Rim and “Portal,” Del Toro says that he “wanted very much to have her, because I’m a big Portal fan. But just as a wink. She’s not cake-obsessed. She’s not out to destroy humanity.”

“I said, ‘Look, there’s no A.I. I’d rather have than GLaDOS,'” but “the filter we’re using is slightly less GLaDOS. Slightly. The one in the trailer I wanted to be full-on GLaDOS.”

Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on July 12, Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke and Diego Klattenhoff.

In the film, when legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
