After opening almost everywhere internationally, Columbia Pictures and MGM’s Skyfall hit North American theaters this weekend and debuted with $87.8 million for the Friday-to-Sunday frame, the biggest opening for a James Bond movie ever domestically. The 23rd installment of the franchise debuted with $2.2 million from 463 IMAX locations on Thursday and has taken in a total of $90 million since opening. The previous biggest opening for a 007 movie was Quantum of Solace, which earned $67.5 million its first weekend in November of 2008. Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw, averaged a strong $25,050 at 3,505 locations and saw $13.1 million of its total coming from IMAX theaters.
Internationally, Skyfall has reached $428.6 million for a worldwide total of $518.6 million so far. In comparison, Quantum of Solace earned $586.1 million total and Casino Royale reached $594.2 million.
60% of the opening weekend audience for Skyfall was male and 40% was female. 25% was under 25 years old and the film received an A CinemaScore. The movie reportedly cost $200 million to make.
