Gary Oldman Updates on The Dark Knight Rises

While doing press for his latest, Red Riding Hood, Gary Oldman spoke with MTV News and dropped a few hints about the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises.

"It’s a great, great story," says Oldman, though he confirms that he hasn’t read the full script yet, "You look at ‘The Dark Knight’ and you think, ‘How’s he going to top it?’ But I think he has."

When questioned about the statements that Christopher Nolan has made in the past regarding the third film being the likely end of the modern Batman franchise as we know it, Oldman reaffirmed that Rises will tie up the series as a trilogy.

"The scope and also the way he brings it back to ‘Batman Begins,’" says the actor when asked to described the film’s climatic tone, "and really what Bruce Wayne discovers about himself. What he learns about himself at the end of this one."

While little is confirmed at this time, speculation about the pending casting of another villian, rumored to be Talia al Ghul, would certainly fit with Oldman’s comments about returning to the plotline of Batman Begins. Regardless, fans won’t have long to wait for confirmation. Production is expected to begin shortly with the film aiming for a July 20, 2012 release.
