Ryan Coogler has shared a new update regarding Black Panther 3 and Denzel Washington’s potential casting.
Coogler previously directed 2018’s Black Panther and the 2022 sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. A third movie is being developed and, in November 2024, Washington revealed that Coogler is “writing a part” for him in the new MCU movie.
Appearing on Nightcap, Coogler provided some new information about Black Panther 3’s release and Washington’s involvement.
What did Ryan Coogler say about Black Panther 3?
When asked how long fans will have to wait for Black Panther 3, Coogler said, “Not long.”

Regarding Washington’s involvement, Coogler commented, “I’ve been dying to work with Denzel. I’m hoping we can make that happen. I’ve got every intention of working with him on that movie. As long as he’s interested, man, it’s going to happen. He’s a living legend and a great mentor for so many of us. He’s all about looking out for us, now.”
It’s not clear who Washington will be playing in Black Panther 3, as plot details for the Marvel Studios movie remain under wraps at this time. A release date has not yet been set.
Producer Nate Moore, however, did say that the movie won’t be “before Avengers” when speaking to Variety last month. Avengers: Doomsday is currently dated for May 1, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars arrives on May 7, 2027.
It’s worth noting that two Black Panther characters — Letitia Wright’s Shuri/Black Panther and Tenoch Huerta’s Namor — were both announced to be part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast earlier this week. Whether or not they also show up in Secret Wars remains to be seen.
Marvel‘s Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are both available to stream on Disney+. The first film stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, who also appeared in a number of other MCU movies before Boseman passed away in August 2020.
