A new writer has reportedly started working on the DCU Clayface movie.
James Watkins is currently working on a DCU movie about the Batman villain Clayface. The script comes from Mike Flanagan, who is best known for his work on Netflix horror series like The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and more.
What is the new Clayface DCU movie update?
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, a new writer has been brought on board the Clayface to do “a significant pass on Mike Flanagan’s script.” The writer is not named in Sneider’s story, meaning it’s unclear who is now working on the script.
No actor has yet been publicly announced to be playing Clayface in the DCU movie at this time; however, James Gunn has stated that it won’t be Alan Tudyk. Tudyk voiced the character in Creature Commandos and Harley Quinn; the latter of those two shows, however, is not set within the DCU.
There were previously rumors that Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe was being eyed for the titular role in Clayface, though Gunn denied those reports.
“[Clayface] is a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay,” a description of the film’s plot, via The Hollywood Reporter, reads.
Watkins recently directed the 2024 Speak No Evil remake with James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis. His filmography also includes 2008’s Eden Lake, 2012’s The Woman in Black, and 2016’s Bastille Day.
Clayface will be released in United States theaters on September 11, 2026, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. It will be the third feature film in the DCU following Superman, which arrives in July, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which releases in 2026.
