Marvel has reportedly found a director for the long-awaited Blade movie.
Marvel Studios has been attempting to get a Blade movie off the ground for years now, as Kevin Feige announced that Luke Cage’s Mahershala Ali had been tapped to play Eric Brooks in the MCU in 2019.
Ali has since had an uncredited voice cameo in 2021’s Eternals; however, the Blade solo movie that was planned has been delayed numerous times as many directors have signed on and then departed from the project.
Blade was recently removed from Marvel’s release calendar entirely, as it was supposed to come out on November 7, 2025, but has not yet been given a new date.
Who might be directing the MCU Blade movie?
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Kevin Feige “has vowed to press on with the project.” Sneider mentions that Marvel “has a new director on Blade” and, while not confirmed at this time, it “sounds like it could very well be [Chad] Stahelski.”
World of Reel also published a story earlier this month that suggested Stahelski was rumored to be eyed for the project.
Stahelski is best known for his work on John Wick, as he directed all four films that are part of the main franchise thus far. He is also a producer on From the World of John Wick: Ballerina and Nobody 2, both of which will be released later this year, and is working with Lionsgate on reviving the Highlander franchise.
Sneider additionally said that True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga was attached to the Blade movie at one point in time. That, however, fell through, as “Fukunaga is rather famously difficult to work with” and “Marvel was looking for someone a little more studio-friendly.” In addition to working on True Detective, Fukunaga is known for directing 2015’s Beast of No Nation and 2021’s No Time to Die. He’s now working on a new thriller movie with Benedict Cumberbatch titled Blood on Snow.
