Miles Morales voice actor Shameik Moore recently opened up about how his involvement in the animated Spider-Verse movies has changed his viewpoint on Spider-Man.
Moore has voiced Miles Morales/Spider-Man in two well-received animated movies from Sony Animation — 2018’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its 2023 sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, — as well as in the 2024 tie-in short film, The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story. He is set to reprise the role in the third and final installment in the Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is currently in production.
During a panel appearance at the recent FanExpo San Francisco (via Collider), Moore opened up about his evolution as Miles Morales, believing that his opinion of Spider-Man has drastically evolved since he was a child due to his involvement in the Marvel franchise.
“You know, I think just the understanding of the words, ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’ ‘Anyone can wear the mask, but it’s how you wear the mask that makes you a hero.’ It’s one thing to hear those words, but — it’s like your parents telling you something when you’re 10, and then you think about it. It really hits you differently when you’re 20. You know, it’s the same, it’s the same exact thing — it’s relative,” the actor explained.
“Or reading a book for the first time and going back to it and getting something totally different out of it the next time or looking at a painting. It’s the same, It’s really the same thing. Listening to songs you used to listen to, or watching a movie, watching SpongeBob again at 20 versus when you first watched it. I missed a lot of these like subliminals,” Moore continued. “I’m evolving and so my initial understanding is evolving.”
When will Spider-Man fans see Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales again?
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally set to be released on March 29, 2024. However, in July 2023, Sony undated and removed Beyond the Spider-Verse from its release calendar. While the movie is confirmed to be in production, a report from November 2024 indicated that the third installment “is very far off” from being released as the studio has decided to restart the script from the ground up. With no release date in sight for Beyond the Spider-Verse, it’s unclear when exactly fans will see Moore’s Miles Morales back on the big screen.
